Suma Majumdar, a neurodevelopmentally disabled girl from the village of Kismat Hali Shahar in Bishnupur Union of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila, had been trying for three long years to get a wheelchair but had not received any assistance from anywhere.
Finally, on the morning of September 18 (Thursday), her father, Atindra Majumdar — a poor villager — took her to the Bashargati Latif Master Foundation seeking help.
Upon learning of their situation, Dr. Md. Faridul Islam Babul, Adviser to the Foundation, President of the Bagerhat BCS Officers’ Forum, and former Secretary, directed immediate action. Following his instructions, journalist Ruhul Amin Babu, Coordinator of the Foundation’s Free Medical Camp, accompanied Suma and her father to the Sarui Disability Service and Assistance Center in Bagerhat town.
There, Md. Shamim Ahsan, Officer for Disability Affairs, and Sangram Kanti Kundu, the responsible Information Officer and Consultant, completed the official procedures and provided Suma with a wheelchair.
Receiving the wheelchair, Suma Majumdar and her father expressed great joy and left Bagerhat with gratitude.
