The meeting was held on Saturday (November 7) at 2:00 PM at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, with Deputy Commissioner Golam Md. Baten presiding.

In his presidential address, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of inspiring the younger generation to develop an interest in science and technology. He stated that there is no alternative to scientific learning in developing students’ intellectual abilities, creativity, and innovative thinking. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of developing students’ interest in science from an early age. He noted that the Science Club would play a significant role in fostering curiosity, logical reasoning, and innovative thinking among students.

He also stressed the need to organize science fairs regularly every year. Such fairs will provide school and college students with opportunities to showcase their self-developed scientific projects, innovative products, and technology-based inventions. These initiatives will not only help nurture students’ talents but also pave the way for developing future scientists and innovators.

Special guests at the meeting included Anup Das, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue); Md. Kamruzzaman, General Secretary of the Science Club and former President of the Bagerhat Press Club; and Abu Shahma, Assistant Commissioner (Land), Bagerhat Sadar Upazila.

The newly established Science Club will operate through the collaboration of professors, teachers, and students from various educational institutions across the district. The responsibility of General Secretary will be carried out by Md. Kamruzzaman, a social activist who has been actively involved in science club initiatives for many years and has received awards at national-level science fairs. He is also the former President of the Bagerhat Press Club.

The meeting placed particular emphasis on organizing annual science fairs, showcasing students’ innovative projects, arranging science-based competitions, and creating a supportive environment for scientific learning and exploration.

The speakers expressed their hope that the regular activities of the Bagerhat Science Club would play an important role in shaping students into scientifically minded, rational, creative, and responsible citizens.
